Jason Kamin

“going on adventures and gathering my own reference material is so crucial in developing who I am as an artist.”

Approach:

In Jason Kamin's artistic process, ranging from a one-hour burst of inspiration to a week-long contemplative journey, the planning stage of a painting unfolds as a meticulous endeavor. Nights devoid of sleep are dedicated to profound thought, underscoring his belief in the pivotal nature of preparation for a new piece. The composition (design) aspect, often underrated, assumes immense importance as elements such as lines, colors, textures, subject, positioning, and lighting converge to shape the final piece. Jason acknowledges that emotion can be effectively conveyed through representationalism. Consequently, the choice of canvas size is a critical consideration, guided by the question, "What does the subject demand?" His inclination towards larger paintings, immersing the viewer fully in the subject, contributes to the painstakingly slow production time of each artwork.

Originality:

In the digital age inundated with millions of subject images, Jason Kamin places a premium on maintaining originality. Acknowledging the ease with which emerging artists may replicate subjects solely based on online visuals, he prioritizes real-world experiences. Venturing out on adventures and collecting his own reference material is deemed crucial in shaping his identity as an artist. Beyond the web, Jason believes there's a vast world waiting to be explored, and art possesses the transformative power to open doors to new perspectives.

Materials:

In his artistic endeavors, Jason Kamin predominantly works with Artisan water-soluble oils, occasionally venturing into experiments with acrylics and watercolors. Utilizing high-quality, gesso-primed wrap-around canvases, he maintains flexibility in his choice of brushes or palette knives – as long as they effectively serve their purpose. To preserve the color and texture of the finished pieces, Jason employs Krylon aerosol varnish, adding a final touch to the art creation process.
